‘Infallibly good’

This Italian heavyweight is rich, robust and full bodied. It pairs well with rich risottos, red meat and why not… haggis.

Description

This Barbera comes from a range of hills in the Monferrato UNESCO World Heritage area called the Zucchetto – a word also used to describe the ‘little pumpkin’ hat the Pope wears.

Franco’s family has been making wine here since 1894 and he personally manages the whole wine production process – from pruning the vines to harvesting, fermentation and even sales. I bought the Barbera which was fantastic and enjoyed by many. Can highly recommend.

Our wine arrived today (really speedy delivery in sound packaging) and oh the excitement! We ordered 1 box and 2 bottles. Chris is in love with the bottles, they are truly stunning. We bought them to gift some of the wine to a friend. As for the box? We put the kids to bed and promptly cracked that baby open. Smells good, tastes good, and some more of it is currently sitting in a decanter because 2 glasses in, we had to actively stop ourselves from drinking any more. Just so tasty! We’ll definitely be back from more.

My first experience of a Barbera. Great quality wine, paired well with lots of different foods. Not a grape seen on our shelves that often, the Italians keep all the good stuff for themselves ! Not any more…..

  4. Rated 5 out of 5

Wow, what a great wine. My first experience of When In Rome wine. I could talk about the deep complex flavours, but no snobbery here, just a highly enjoyable red. Easy to have just a glass, knowing it will keep for ages.

  5. Rated 5 out of 5

A smooth, great tasting red – dangerously “quaffable” it’s so easy to keep topping up the glass!
After being gifted a bottle we were very quick to buy a box of our own!

  6. Rated 5 out of 5

After searching for wine like you get in Italy (the good stuff they keep for themselves) for years and failing it turns out it’s like buses. You wait and wait and then a host of great wines come along all at once.
